As I'm moving up the ranks using a mix of speedies and small-medium but interesting layouts, I have to wonder. What motivates people to create so many speedies?
This is where I break into a food metaphor. But then, everything is a food metaphor to me. Ok ... I'm a fish in a small pond - not a big fish, but a pretty hungry one. And someone keeps dumping a huge supply of yummy little fish (speedies) into the pond. I'm in a feeding frenzy! It must be my inner piggy at work.
Every speedy layout creator profile I looked at was an RLP. What's the incentive for them?
Jim

Sorry Jim, I can't answer that one for you. I'm a RLP and creator of 1001 layouts but not of speedies... I don't go for stars... I just play for fun and pleasure....
Have fun on your journey to becoming a RLP.....

If you continue playing after you have 90 stars, you fall off the RLP list and start over as Newbie. It is said to take far longer to ranks up. I never heard a player did that. The RLP stars list can viewed here: www.mahjongtowerseternity.com/

After RLP, that's how I'll probably spend most of my game time. Jim

you get points when you play a layout, those points add up to stars... the only thing you might get from making layouts is getting onto the 20 creators list, which you can find at the bottom of the page where it shows stars...
I hope you got the info you needed...

To get the most out of the speedies, they are played in concentration mode to get tripple the bonus. Best is to play them fresh after being bumped up to the maximum bonus of 10.000 points. That is pretty easy if one has version 1.2, but almost impossible with version 1.3
For reaching the creators list you need to create loads of very popular layouts. The list is based on how many times the layouts of a player are played all together.

The list is based on how many times the layouts of a player are played all together. That got me to check my version, which is 1.3. It was a freebie download for Borders Rewards patrons, so I didn't expect much. Boy, was I surprised! Even with version 1.3, I've occasionally struck a rich lode of high-point speedies and mined them for all they were worth. One day I picked up maybe a dozen of them between 8000 and 10000 points each. More typically, though, I'll get a batch ranging from 2500 to 7500 points each. I never bother with the 500s and seldom use the 1000s. And I always do them in concentration mode. That's your doing, actually. Before joining this forum, I'd been downloading exclusively from Random, and had learned to do the small ones in concentration mode, but I wasn't doing that many of them (and didn't know anyone had a name for them). Then I joined this forum and read a post of yours about going back through the ranks - and using "speedies". That's when it all clicked into place. I knew immediately what you were referring to and so I went speedy-hunting. Jim

Jim, when I did play speedies (we all do to get to RLP)... I went here... www.mahjongtowerseternity.com/layouts.phpin here you will find all the layouts that are made. Because when you share, you can only share 10 layouts at a time. So in here they are all there. All I did was right down the name of the designer or the layout... So layouts are not even bumped up yet to 10,000.. If they had atleast 8 attempts then I would bump it to 10 attempts, now it's 10,000.. Play it under concentration and get 30,000....Everyone does this... I sure hope this makes sense to you, lol..

The implication, if I got this, is that you intentionally lose one or more games to increase the points. Then you harvest them. If, instead, you win the game when it has been played 8 times and is worth 2500 points, even in concentration mode you only get 2500 points. Plus you've now completed the game and can't collect the completion points when they go up. I've tried to quit a game prematurely to create a loss, but quitting doesn't go down as a loss. So how do you bump? And thanks for the link - I wasn't aware of it. Searching by author isn't something I'd thought of, either. Jim

I just had to go onto MTE and double check... It's been a while since I did bumping...
this is how I did it... I start to play, then click shuffle, then back, it will ask you if "you want to save your game before quitting" click no... You will see attempts show up for each time you do this...
You are correct about if you play it before 10 attempts...
I hope I answered your question right... you can also click hint that add seconds on to your play time use the hint and then restart after shuffle option ?

You intentionally lose one or more games to increase the points. That is right. As I said before, it is almost impossible to bump with version 1.3. You have to stay in the game for 30 seconds without finishing it before it is an attempt. That you have to do ten times.
Getting 10 seconds penalty for a hint and 60 seconds for shuffle occurs after 30 seconds in version 1.3. With version 1.2 you get that rightaway and you have to stay in a game only for 5 seconds to make it a lost attempt.
The first ten times a game is played it remains 2500 bonus points. If you play a game attempted less than 10 times, in concentration mode you end up with 2500 bonus points. Speedies become interested, being attempted 10 times with zero success. At that point it is worth 10.000 points. That high bonus lowers rapidly of course. Speedies are too easy to stay that high.

I made a whole set of speediies on my journey to RLP .. mostly for me to finish the big last lap of the marathon that is MTE , but also to share and say thanks to those whose speedies I played on my journey
Initially I loved to play and create medium level type games, Gerdas mathematical series of pentagons and octogons kept me going , I created I few myself now in the annals of MTE history At the time my son was 12 and he made a level titled hollow tube .. OMG took me about 97 attempts by this time I started to try to make an impossible level.. before I knew it I was almost there but .. you need 230000000000 ok I exaggerated the amount but you need mega points to reach RLP , so :
I had beat hollow tube designed a few hard levels made some fun ones now time to buckle down and get to the finish line .. Gerda was miles ahead, ;D ;D no way of catching her in this marathon , but speedies were the option
and finally got to the RLP in 26 place.. since then I aint bothered about stars .. started again at a slow pace and still a rooster.. oh just fail it [speedie]after 30 seconds and keep faling and it will go up in value

Thanks, Angel, Pinky, and Gerda for so much great information!
Angel, I'm afraid I got turbo-charged by your suggestion about zooming in on an author. I chose "*BuffyII" and got a boatload of speedies as a result - and I never even got close to the end of her list. And that's just one author!
Gerda, I didn't realize you were referring to bumping in your comments about version 1.2 vs. 1.3. And it didn't register with me what bumping was until Angel brought it up again. Now it all fits together and makes perfect sense.
Somewhere along the line, I'll try creating some layouts, but I'm not sure what type I'd do just yet.
Pinky, I don't intend to pursue stars, in any case. After I get to RLP, my idea is build up a list of favorites that consists of the 500 most challenging layouts that I've actually completed.

Oh, and I may try bumping yet, but I have v1.3, which Gerda says more or less defeats bumping. For now, though, the author idea is yielding a fruitful bounty of speedies.

Angel, I sent karma your way. Gerda and Pinky, you have karma coming, too, but the forum is making me wait to do that.

Jim I have 1.3 version and I have no problem bumping... I just went back on to check again.. Here's more info I forgot... I wait until the time say 30 sec.. sometimes I will shuffle and other times I don't, just check to see what works for you... When you are bumping the same layout over and over, you will get a message that say "Do you want to resume the game you have saved with this layout" just check NO...
I discovered bumping when I was more then half way to becoming a RLP... boy did it help after that point..
Thanks for the karma....
Just remember to have fun....
I the future if you are looking for some great layouts to do, please check out all of Gerda's usernames, and Pinky's. I found all ranges of styles and so much fun to play..I have to say mine aren't to bad either, lol...
I will be on vacation starting tonight, won't be back until the 17th...

I hope you do not keep the 500 challenging layouts in your favorite list. It slows down the game. It is better to create several my files containing ca. 50 layouts. You can zip the file and give it each different names. Or rename the my file to my1 etc. (for example).
