I'm very sorry for you Rainluver. (Give you a karma for it). After our red cat Youry died years ago, we decided not to have a cat anymore, because it hurted so much when he died. He was ill for a long time. I never had a sweeter cat. But now Gerrit is alone all day, he wanted to have some company. So we went to the asylum home for pets and got the one who came to us. That was Lexy. I liked the name, he already had. Living at an apartment, we can't have more than one. If I had a house with a garden, I guess I would have more animals.

Thanks for starting this thread, Rainluver, and I'm very sorry that you lost Skeeter. It's so hard to lose a beloved cat, it's like they are a part of the family. A few years ago I lost my cat Aiko after he was with me for 17 years and 2 months, and two weeks after that we also lost our other cat Sam. They were both older cats and ill, and it was so rough losing them at the same time. A little while later we found our cat Max at a shelter, and a few weeks after that adopted our second cat, Suzie. You may have seen my layouts for them. They are both black-and-white tuxedo cats, and they get along very well since we adopted them when they were kittens. They're a few years old now, and I'm so happy that we found them - they're very playful and loving cats.

Ive got two cats Harry and Simba they are both rescued feral cats and were nearly dead when they were rescued. Now they are 4 years old and very sooky. I know someone who has got 11 cats (all apart from one are rescued cats). I have also been a volunter with cats protection since i was 12. There are pictures of Harry and Simba in the animal talk thread if anyone wants to know what they look like.

PeggySue is the manager of our house. She will be 7 in August of 2006, and takes her duties very seriously, like, if there is a strange noise is the bathroom (leak in the toilet tank), she sits in the doorway to the bathroon, looks at me & mews until I do something about it.
In some months there are too many crickets & they somehow come into the house, and she relieves them of a leg in the night, so they won't make too much noise, & so that I can put them out for the birds in the morning-----ah, ecology!!!
She seems to understand what I talk to her about, and we had a long discussion this morning about the sweet little tweetie bird she brought me--so I am looking forward to finding out how much of it she really accepted.

I have really enjoyed reading about all the kitties.
I now have 2 cats since Moonbeam got cancer last fall and died. I have her daughter Rosebud and her stepmom Sylvie. I brought Moonbeam home when she was just 6 weeks old and after 3 days of shunning, Sylvie made the best of things and adopted her and Moonbeam hated to be separated from her all her life.
Sylvie is an awesome cat. She learned to sit up and beg for her food just by watching another cat I had many years ago. Sylvie is about 14 and going strong.
Rosebud is about 10 or 11. I can't remember which. She is such a baby tho, it's hard to think of her as a middleaged cat. Rosebud crawls under the covers to sleep at night, and near bed-time she starts pacing between wherever I am to the bedroom door and scolding gently. She hates it when I stay up too late.
Sylvie came to me when she was about 5 months old. She belonged to my ex-mother-in-law at that time. But Sylvie told me firmly that she was taking over my life and I had to take her home with me. My mother-in-law had no problem with it so away we went. Sylvie used to travel with me when I was doing craft shows. She's ridden down the strip in Las Vegas and saw the volcano erupt at The Mirage.

I'm so sorry to hear that you lost Smokey this week too, Rainluver. My thoughts go out to you and I hope that you're doing ok. I'm glad that Scooter is bringing some new joy to your life.

Well I know how it feels to lose a beloved animal. I had to get rid of my best friend Shadow of 3 yrs a couple months ago. She had been traumatized by a so-called friend I had watching her while I was out of state for family funeral. I got back to find her sick and had to take her to the hospital. Someone had stabbed he in the throat with her collar and then put in back on tight. It screwed her up so bad she became violent after awhile and I couldnt handle putting her to sleep. She was help when I was sick and my companion thru the years and she and I had some strange conversations but you knew she understood. Now I have adopted two kittens from bad homes and they are so playful and spoiled it helps relieve the pain from missing Shadow. So I sympathize with anyone who has felt that pain.

So sorry to hear about your Shadow. It makes you think how some people can be so cruel. You did the right thing putting her to sleep, that was a blessing. Now you have two special little ones to keep you busy now.. take care

OMG Bluebird, it is so heartwrenching to hear what happened to Shadow. People like that are sick.... I have 3 cats. All black. It's strange how I ended up with all black cats... ? One, Tia, I adopted at a shelter when she was five. She was the one who picked us. She was five years old when I adopted her. She likes to snuggle with me and lick me. She sleeps with me every night. In the winter months, she likes to be under the blankets and up against me. She will let me know when it is time for bed sitting next to me and staring at me intensely. Tia, is my baby...I have never fell in love with any animal as I am with her. She hates to be outside unless I am out with her. Shady was found as a baby abandoned at the apartments we lived at. She is a mouser. Loves to be outdoors. She comes and goes. Loves to bring mice home. Budha was found as a very young kitten, about 4-6 weeks old, at a pool hall/bar. He likes to start trouble with the other two cats. Very mischevious. He likes to go outside too. But, he is never gone long. It's amazing to me how I have become such a cat lover. I use to not like cats because I thought they were not very loving animals. I was a dog lover because dogs always gave you their affection. But, I have learned that when a cat volunteers to give you their love and affection, you have in someway earned it. That is what I now find to be totally awesome. TIA SHADY BUDHA

She is 16 years old and pretty much took over the territory. Here is a picture of her. She likes to check everything out on my laptop!! LOL

That is just too adorable. Shadow used to do that stuff too. Nice to see an animal so close to their human they feel comfortable doing such quirky things. Thanks for the comment, I am slowly dealing with the heartache. Now I have the two little hellions to occupy my time.lol Christine, thats so cool about Tia. I know just what you mean. Shadow was similar in her personality. We had talks about her habit of teeling me what/when to do something. lol The thing I learned about cats is they are usually indifferent a good deal if they just live with you and dont really get much attention. If the get the love they need from you, you get their love in return. At least that is the way it usually happens. That way you show them you care and in return you get their affections. I would show you all pics but I aint sure how to do so here. sorry

The longer haired black is Shadow, the other black with white on her neck is Mischief and the calico is Spaz. lol
