Hello one and all. I have been having issues with director player error. I came in here about a month ago, and found, I thought, a solution to the problem. But, low and behold, I have the same problem again. I have contacted Big Sea Games before about this, and was directed here. I did send another message to them two days ago and still have not received a response. Is there anything else that I can do? I really do love playing Majong. Thank you.

I need help please! I'm a new player and now getting the "director error" too. I have tried all the suggested fix's but with no success. I am using Vista. Have you tried this 1? mahjongtowers.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=askaway&action=display&thread=44If after trying this you have no success - backup yr player folder to yr desktop & if possible also save it to an external drive or onto disk - the link below will direct you how to save it - 3rd post from the bottom of the page - (if you dont save the player folder then you will have to restart the game as a new player with a new player name as you cant get yr usual player name back without a backup to put back into the game once its reinstalled) mahjongtowers.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=askaway&action=display&thread=83When you have done this - uninstall Mte - go to search - check in the advanced tab that all boxes are ticked (or however you advance search on Vista - hidden files & folders need to be included in the search) - do a thorough search of yr puter for Mahjong Towers Eternity & delete all files & folders that appear - run disk cleanup then reboot yr puter You must make sure you have done all the above to reinstall with a clean slate - you dont want any previous Mte folders/files being picked up & disrupting a new install When you have done this - post back & i'll pm you a link for the older version of the game The old version seems to run better for those running Vista I have no idea why Bfgs Mte errors have become such a huge issue in the past few months but i do know that both the Mte game & the game manager have been updated earlier this year & iv noticed the director error prob in Vista seems to have taken off since Bfgs fire in early July But we will eventually get you sorted out Fi

I also have the same problem with director errors but I'm running 7. I have tried to uninstall MTE but when I click on the MTE file, it opens MTE and the uninstall tool will not work if MTE is running. Windows 7 is so very different and not at all user friendly so I am totally confused. I've tried to find my profile but I cannot find anything that vaguely resembles it. I'm really upset because I've played MTE every single night for several hours for the past 2 years and now I can't play it. Do you think if I bought a new copy of it and installed it that might solve the problem. This is so discouraging.

Firstly, Windows 7 is just vista but much more stable and reliable, so follow the instructions above for vista and you should be ok.
I'm not sure what you mean by not being able to uninstall. If you previously had vista there should be no change to what you did before to uninstall things. If not there are 2 initial things you can do. 1) Open all programmes, open the MTE folder and there should be an uninstall icon there. If not, open the control panel, click on uninstall a programme then choose MTE when it comes up.
If you are still struggling you can email me and I will walk you through each stage.

I was running XP then I bought a new computer with Windows 7 (big mistake) so I know nothing about Vista. I cannot uninstall because every time I click on uninstall I'm told to close the game first. I am not opening the game but when I click on the uninstall it opens. I tried to find the folders and got as far as appdata but then I can't go any further. There is no tools tab at the top of my screen therefore no options. When I click on the appdata folder I get a number of files but none say local. I am so sorry this happened. Windows 7 is not a good thing to have.

Hi Zcb - it sounds to me like you need to allow Windows 7 to show you the hidden files ??
Try this - Open a folder - any yellow 1 will do Click on the Tools menu Click on Folder Options Clik the View tab Scroll to 'hidden files & folders' Clik on the 'show hidden files & folders' circle
You may need to reboot ?? not sure about that in Windows 7
Etha way go back to the app data folder & see if the local folder appears
Sing out if you need more help

Hi ZCB
I have been close to a Win7 PC. Indeed the toolbar is not visible right away. You first right-click on an empty space on the bar at top. I think it was the second bar. Now you can select the toolbar to show up. It is a small bar with words on the left. Hope you manage. Otherwise Andy might look how it works and what bar has to be right-clicked and what to select.
If you found it. First make sure to find the player folder. On C:\ there is also an AppData folder, but that is not the right one.
If you manage to delete the game, also delete the folders in the VirtualStore folder.
Next time you install the game, make sure it install in a folder outside C:\Program Files. I think creating a folder C:\Games would be a nice place to install games in.

Thank you for all you help but this is too far beyond what I can understand. I have spent several hours and I still cannot do what you all have suggested. Gerda, there still is no tool bar no matter where I click and I still cannot uninstall the game. Again thank you for all your help. Firstly, please believe me when I say Windows 7 is a far, far better OS, and I used to be an XP lover. All that's happening at the moment is that it's all new to you and you haven't found your way around. That's not a problem, I can help. After all, if you don't get to know Windows 7 you'll end up with a pc you can't do much on, and you're already having problems with MTE. The main thing is.... don't panic or get frustrated. That only leads to more errors and prevents you from thinking clearly. I am more than happy to walk you through each stage bit by bit, with screen shots where necessary. We can start at the beginning from the very basics. Don't think there's anything too silly or daft to ask because we've all been there at some point. Everyone has had to learn. So please email me (it will be easier to communicate and send screen shots etc) and we can take it one stage at a time. Don't give up and say it's beyond you because it isn't. All you need is proper guidance and I am more than happy to give you that. Ok? I look forward to your email (I hope) Andy

Thanx 4 the reply. That helps. I see one thing that I wasn't doing. Deleting the previous "player" file. I was just putting it in there with the whole set. Thought it would clear it by itself. I have the Win XP. I just finally managed to get "newer to me anyways", Mbrd, hd, and cpu. I just get to have fun breaking myself into new things to use. I have a Pentium D cpu. A P5nSli MB. Still have a small HD inside with a big external. Take care and thanx again.

Hi, I was having problems with Director Error and not being able to access the correct files. Well several things have happened since. It wasn't me, it was a problem with Carbonite and how they transferred over the files from XP to Windows 7. It's not totally corrected but it's better than it was. Then, I was looking around for a solution to Director Error and saw a suggestion that it may be a compatibility issue. I went to Big Fish Games in my downloads, selected properties and there is a tab with compatibility. I selected returning to XP mode for this game and that solved the problem. I can now play the game. There is one weird thing tho, when I look for best time completed, it's only my name. Any suggestions there? Otherwise all those going from XP or Vista to Windows 7 should give the compatibility solution a try.

Getting to know a new magic box is a real adventure. You only see only your own times in best times? I think your best times list is set to: "My Times" Look in the right upper corner in "Best times" You click on: "Global Times" to see how others did.

Hi Ketchy - Welcome to the forum Try this link - bigfishgames.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/175If the need arises to uninstall/reinstall the game you need to save yr player folder - this link will help you to do that - mahjongtowers.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=askaway&action=display&thread=83NOTE: IF YOU UNINSTALL - DO A THOROUGH SEARCH OF YR PUTER FOR ALL MTE FOLDERS & FILES - THIS INCLUDES HIDDEN FILES & FOLDERS ALSO - DELETE ALL THEN REBOOT YR PUTER BEFORE REINSTALLING any corrupt folders or files left on yr puter will be picked up with a reinstall so it is very important that a reinstallation is made on a clean slate Should the prob persist after the above get back to us Hugz Fi
